Psychology Advocacy Network (PAN)
Who we are
The Psychology Advocacy Network (PAN) is a grassroots collective of hundreds of independent Psychologists, Psychological Associates, and psychology graduate students across Ontario. We came together in response to the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario’s (CPBAO) proposed regulatory changes, out of concern for their potential harm to the public.
We are committed to advocating for safety in psychological practice and regulation. While we collaborate and share information with the Ontario Psychological Association (OPA) and other partners, PAN is fully independent and not formally affiliated with any association, institution, or regulatory body.
Key points from concerned Ontario Psychologists
Extreme changes are happening across all aspects of professional standards simultaneously and without any data to support this is safe for the public.
FEWER
CHECKS
Changes to all 3 exams (no oral exam, ethics online module & unlimited attempts to pass a standardized general psychology knowledge exam), removing the only direct way for the college to assess competence, ethics, and judgment.
COLLAPSING PRACTICE AREAS
No longer formally recognizing who has the appropriate training and experience to work with special populations like children, families, seniors, or differentiating between those who can do neuropsychological testing for brain injuries, from those who treat conditions like depression and anxiety.
DRASTIC TRAINING CUTS
Required real-work clinical practice cut by 75%. Removes 4 years of clinical experience for master's level registrants. Making Ontario psychologists among the least trained in the country.
