On December 12, 2025, the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (CPBAO) voted to move forward with major changes to licensing and minimum training requirements for psychologists.

This decision was made despite widespread concern from the public, frontline clinicians, universities, hospitals, mental-health organizations, and elected officials. Nearly 10,000 people participated in the consultation, with 89% expressing opposition1. Many warned that the proposed changes would significantly reduce training requirements, remove long-standing safeguards, and raise serious concerns about patient safety and public protection.

This decision has only strengthened our resolve. As these changes move into the government review stage, we will continue to advocate for training and regulatory standards that place public protection first.
